Ooooh hoooooo!
That last night was such a fun night
Though Toravon was a lame fight
But Rotface we did just just riiight.
Last night Shadow Rising was at war in Icecrown. We had 2! 10 man raids going and both did well. Raid 2 even got to finish a weekly icecrown quest by killing a frost giant.
Raid one had a crazy glitch involving a certain rogue ending up *inside* the gunship and then everyone disconnecting.
Tickets were opened, excuses were made, and I’m sure that everything was “working as intended”
We decided to try out the new loot pinata, I mean VoA boss (that’s “vo-uh” btw). None of us had seen it before, we vaguely discussed that standing in ice is bad, and then we pulled. 2 minutes and 30 seconds later I had tier 10 gloves 😀
Now.. one of these days Blizzard will decide to give up on these boring fights. There are only so many times that “don’t stand in fire” is interesting. And tank-swaps? Puh-leeze, such a lame design it’s not even funny. It’s really just an excuse to not swap out a tank for a better dps on fights that don’t have adds to control.
Oh yeah, and poison/slime/ice/lightning/void zone/death and decay/bombs are NOT any more interesting than fire!
When I think of a good, fun, well designed encounter I just have to think of the Gunship Battle. Beyond the fact that rocket packs are awesome, there’s the fact that you are ROCKETTING OVER TO PWN THE PUNY ALLIANCE SCUM!! Vehicle fights do not impress me. Malygos was fun the other night, but only because I had never even seen it before. I can see why no one ran it anymore by the time I hit 80.
Jousting… I cannot stand. The whole concept of the argent tournament makes ZERO sense to me. That being said, I like the TotC raid. I just don’t like the whole idea behind it. And the dailies… the jousting… can go rot in Hellfire Peninsula.
But Gunships are not vehicles, THEY’RE FREAKING FLYING GUNSHIPS!!
A few other well-designed encounters that I enjoy are:
Twin Valkyr – Target switching, essense swiftching, gathering orbs and avoiding the other ones, there is a lot going on in this fight but it’s more involved than “don’t stand in, run away”
Anub’arak – Yes, a healer that likes this fight. Here we actually have a reason to have multiple tanks: there are adds that must be positioned and controlled correctly. And ranged has to position the frost sphere correctly. And for phase 3 you actually need healers with brains and mental stability. Heh, that won’t last long.
Rotface – Don’t shoot me guys! As much as we’ve all hated this guy’s slimy guts the past 44 times he’s killed us.. I love this fight. We’ve had to learn it, slowly but surely, piece by piece. Our offtank had to (and did) get pro at kiting oozes capable of two-shotting him with melee. Our priest got pro at dispelling the disease at the right time. Our main tank got pro at moving the boss to the edge of the slime to give our offtank more room (although we ended up not doing that at the end). And then every single raid member had to learn the situational awareness to run out of the raid and drop off their ooze with the big ooze. Form Voltron! Yes, we wiped a miserable 44 times, but everyone! I’ve got good news! We owned him! NO ONE beats Shadow Rising 45 times in a row!
I for one am looking forward to Valithria Dreamwalker. I haven’t even gotten a chance to read up on it, but it has the potential to be the most innovative boss yet.
.
Oh yeah, so this morning I woke up… and had to get a ride to work. I lost power steering yesterday and I can’t drive my van now. 😦
The ’95 plymouth voyager has a known defect… if you drive through any kind of puddle you are likely to knock off the serpentine belt, which happens to control not only power steering but the engine cooling system too. I almost blew up my engine just getting home from work yesterday, and I was just 5 minutes away!
Maybe that wasn’t as interesting to you as getting tazed, but at least this was true.

I dunno dude, you cry wolf far too much for me to believe you now. 😉
I was going to say the samething…. The bear who cried wolf…or is it the tree who called wolf?
But last night was awesome…..Del next time you say you got a feeling….go ahead and insist away at killing something.
We should dub you goodfeeling bear or something….
How you feeling about Putricide on Saturday?
I’ve got a decently good feeling about Putricide. It will be a two-shot, Zug will die too quickly on the first try and we’ll mess up with the add. The second try will be flawless, although Zug will still randomly die around 50%.
Blood princes… I’m not feeling it but Lanathel will be one-shot when we get to her.
Close, 5 tries and I died at 2 seconds to the kill.
But Zug did die unnecessarily all 5 times.
Although it doesn’t take a psychic to guess that.
Or an evil genius.
since you are an evil genius I would understand how you could see it
“Goodfeeling bear” sounds like the Care Bear that touches you inappropriately while you sleep.
Wait, I thought that wasn’t real!
And I was ABOUT to say that sounded like a good name.
I wonder if Goodfeeling Bear knows Sexual Harassment Panda.
